UPDATE #5 – GRAND OPENING!

On November 13, 2015, Community Bible Church of Ventura became the proud owners of the property at 5040 Telegraph Road! Ventura Community Bank helped us fund our loan, and we closed with $50,000 left in our building fund. This seed money allowed us to begin to work on the construction and remodeling needs of our rear educational building, which total approximately $300,000.

In January of this year (2016), by God’s grace we also received a grant of $50,000 from a local foundation to be used toward our construction needs and the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Ventura County!

God continues to work one miracle after another in our midst. And, we are excited as we prepare to celebrate our Grand Opening with the community on Sunday, March 13, from 12:30 – 3 pm. Our construction will not be completed by this time, but we want to invite neighboring businesses and residents to view our progress, enjoy some delicious food, tour our facilities, and learn of our vision for meeting the needs of Ventura as we add value to our city.

We continue to welcome gifts and contributions as we diligently work toward completing our goals. We are happy to answer any questions you might have, and we pray that you will consider partnering with us as we seek to fulfill the vision that God has entrusted to us!

UPDATE #4 – WE HAVE MOVED!

Hi Friends,

On Palm Sunday, March 29, we celebrated our first service at 5040 Telegraph Road. It’s been so exciting to see all that God has done and continues to do! He has opened so many doors and has performed so many miracles.

We are presently leasing as we rally to come up with the rest of the money we need for a down payment to purchase the property. We have incurred a lot of expenses related to making the facilities operational; and, we now need to concentrate our money and energy on preparing for escrow.

The good news is that we are around $115,000 from our financial goal! We have a number of fundraisers planned to raise this money, and we hope that you will join us in making these a success. Additionally, if you know of any other people or sources of funding, please let us know.

God has led us each step of the way, and He will continue to be faithful as our vision translates into reality. Please continue to pray for CBC, its staff and leaders, as well as our entire church family, for protection, unity, and wisdom.

God has promised to do “exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we think or ask according to His power at work in us!” (Ephesians 3:20)

UPDATE #3 – Good News! It’s Time To Pack!

Hi Friends,

This last Sunday the members of CBC approved a move to 5040 Telegraph Road with an affirming 98.5% vote of support! This vote represented an overwhelming 86% participation of our people. Thanks for the tremendous turnout!

As we gathered to pray over the property and seek God’s direction, I couldn’t help but feel that we were witnessing history in the making! I believe that one day we will look back on that moment as one of the most exciting in CBC’s corporate life.

The pledges turned in totaled $175,000! I’m so proud of each one of you! This amount represents dedication, sacrifice and a sincere desire to trust the Lord for the greatest faith ride of our lives!

This means that we are only $125,000 from our goal! And, I am overwhelmingly confident that God will make this vision a reality in the next five months. Remember, the sooner we reach our target, the sooner we can begin escrow and transition from leasing to ownership!

I believe that there are many of you out there that have not yet had the opportunity to make your pledges. We need your help and ownership. This vision is not limited to members alone. It also encompasses regular attenders as well as any others who have been touched by the ministry of CBC, directly or indirectly.

We have embarked upon a God-sized journey that will only be realized as each member of Christ’s body fulfills its part. We are currently forming working teams as we move toward achieving our goal: fundraising, construction, advertising, city permits, legal, prayer… And, we would love to have you join us as God leads you. A dear Christian brother and friend has already stepped-forward and offered to help us with the details of our move!

Well, I just wanted to update you so you wouldn’t have to wait until Sunday. I hope that you’re excited! I hope that you sense God’s power at work! Personally, I’m ecstatic!

Continue to pray. Continue to seek God’s face. And, continue to thank Him for His faithfulness and leading.

I count it a tremendous privilege to serve Him and you!

UPDATE #2

This Sunday, February 15, we vote on whether or not to pursue the property at 5040 Telegraph Road in Ventura. And, we need every member of CBC to cast their vote. God has been leading the church leadership, and has been opening doors with respect to this site, in ways that are nothing short of a miracle. But, we need a majority vote this Sunday to officially enter into a contract with the present owner to purchase the property.

Many of you are visually-oriented and have asked me to spell-out the financial details one more time. So, I hope that this brings some clarity for your prayers and decision-making process.

The property is approximately one acre. The rear building is 6,900 sq. ft, 2100 sq. ft./level. The front building, or sanctuary is about 5,300 sq. ft., including a mezzanine, offices, classrooms, and three bathrooms.

We have negotiated a price of $1,860,000. Of this, we can borrow a maximum of $1,000,000 at 4 3/4% – 5% interest for five years, amortized over 20 years. At these terms, our monthly payment would be about $6,300/month. Our current payment is about $6,600/month.

This leaves us needing to raise $860,000 as a down payment. Of this amount, we have already raised a little over $200,000. Plus, we’ve received a matching donation for up to $300,000 for gifts given within the CBC body. And, just last week we received an additional $100,000 from outside our church body.

So, here’s the math:

$1,860,000 purchase price of property
– $1,000,000 loan amount at 4 3/4 – 5%
– $ 200,000 money raised, in bank
– $ 100,000 recent annoymous gift

$ 560,000 balance
– $ 300,000 matching gift

$ 260,000

This is the balance that we need in pledges or gifts this Sunday, to be paid within the next 5 months.

*Technically speaking, we actually need $300,000, as this amount will cover our loan closing costs as well as our increased rent at this new property over the next 7 months ($10,000/month vs. $6,600 now; an excess of about $3,400 x 7 months = about $21,000). If we raise the downpayment before 7 months, this $21,000 figure will be less.

You should also know that there was a thorough appraisal of the property in 2010 that yielded a value of 2.3 million. Though the back building (the 6,900 sq. ft. structure) is in need of a lot of work, we believe that there is potential value/equity in the current offering price of the property.

Having said all this, we are trusting that God will provide His direction in the vote of the membership this Sunday. Please be in prayer as you consider your pledge. We need everyone to be sacrificially invested and committed in order to see God’s hand at work!

If I can answer any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

May God bless you as you seek His guidance,

Bob DuPar

UPDATE #1

We are making great strides in our goal to raise $600,000 for the down payment on our new location! There have been lots of donations made from within and from outside the church. Recently, we were excited and blessed by a generous and anonymous gift of $100,000 from someone within our congregation. Our people are really rallying together and seizing hold of the vision that God has entrusted to us.

With each donation, we inch closer to our goal of a permanent home in Ventura. With each dollar, we get closer to the goal of being able to expand both the visibility and fruitfulness of our ministries. Our children’s ministry, our outreach partnerships, and our food pantry are just a few of the ministries that will benefit from a new location and facility.

We cannot wait to see what God has in store for our church, and we thank each one of you for your contribution of prayer and/or finances. We are confident that together we will realize God’s vision for CBC!

Community Bible Church is seeking to secure a permanent home in Ventura. God has opened an opportunity to acquire an old church going up for sale, but we need funds to complete our venture. The total cost of the property is $1.6 million. We are attempting to raise a down payment of $600,000. Once this is raised, we can begin the process of securing a loan; and, we will be able to afford the monthly payment.

We are a small evangelical, non denominational, Christian body that began as a home Bible study twelve years ago. For a time, we continued to grow together, eventually transitioning to a weekly rental space. A few years later, the elders found a new location in an office park that accommodated our growth and needs. The space needed quite a bit of work, but the church body transformed it into something both beautiful and functional.

In time, the church felt God’s call to hire a permanent lead pastor. That was seven years ago. And today, the church’s vision and ministries have grown to the point that our present location is hindering growth. We have no visibility, our ministries lack space to grow, we are bound by a restrictive conditional use permit, and we passionately want to extend our reach into the community.

A year ago we started a bimonthly community food pantry, partnering with Food Share. We would love to have the space and ability to increase our coverage on a weekly basis. Additionally, we have partnered with a local school and have sought to assist low income families through a six week summer educational enrichment program. We offered this opportunity for free to forty children in July and August of this year; and, the limitations of our present facility alone prevent us from expanding this ministry to more families.

God has placed a burden in our hearts for true discipleship. We want to grow by reaching those who are presently not attending church, equipping them to know and love Jesus, and then sending them out to impact the world for God’s Kingdom! We are dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of people through meeting basic needs and adding value to our community.

We ask that you would prayerfully consider partnering with us in this Kingdom vision. We would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have.

We believe that God is “able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to His power at work in us. To Him be the glory, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, to all generations, forever and ever. Amen!” Ephesians 3:20-21
